We’ve been promising ourselves a trip to Vietnam for a long time now, ever since we lived in Paris and worked at the SIPA press agency.

This beach is at Hoi An – about 10 miles south of China Beach where the first American Marines landed in 1965. The area became known as a combat R&R location for the troops.

Beautiful area of white sands and the warm water of the South China Sea.
Hard to believe now that the war ever happened.
Even when we were mistaken for Americans the welcome from the locals was never less than friendly.
